Usher's 'OMG' and Homer Simpsons Christmas Carol: Rip-off or Coincidence?

Did Usher rip off an old episode of The Simpsons for his smash hit “OMG”? Probably not. But as the morning DJs at Jackson, Miss.’s Y101.7 radio discovered earlier this year, Usher’s tune sounds amusingly similar in places to a Christmas carol that Homer Simpson attempted to compose in a 2003 episode of the animated Fox sitcom.

A YouTube clip put together by the Y101.7 DJs has been making the Internet rounds today with words like “plagiarism” in the headlines. That’s a little silly. The clip presents just a couple of short lines from each song that share similar cadences. We’re talking about “pow-pow-pow/wow-oh-wow” versus “wow-wow-wow/now-now-now” – much more likely a random coincidence than any kind of conscious or unconscious theft. It’s pretty funny to juxtapose these parts of the two songs out of context, but that’s about it.

Kidrobot Teams With Fox For a New Simpsons line

25 new mini figures of popular characters rolling out across the US.

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products has again joined forces with Kidrobot, creator and retailer of limited edition art toys and apparel, to release a second series of The Simpsons toy mini-figures.

The second series features two alternate versions of the popular family and 15 new characters.

Kidrobot’s The Simpsons mini series 2 includes Mariachi Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa and Maggie, plus Zombie versions of the family. In addition, Sideshow Mel, Carl Carlson, Selma and Patty Bouvier, Lenny Leonard, Moe Szyslak and Groundskeeper Willie are included, along with two mystery figures.

Each vinyl figure stands three-inches tall, includes a character sticker, and comes blind boxed to preserve its identity. Figures will be sold separately (or can be purchased by the case) for $9.95 at all five Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com and at select retailers worldwide alongside the first Simpsons series 1.

Kidrobot founder Paul Budnitz said: "The Simpsons have been a giant influence on the aesthetic of Kidrobot. It is hard to describe how exciting it has been for me to work with The Simpsons team to create toys that are essentially a mix of our two styles of artwork."

Robert Marick, EVP of Fox Consumer Products, added, “The Simpsons is a strong, stylized brand that artists can really have fun with. Kidrobot pushes the envelope to create fantastic, high-concept toys that are great additions for any fan of the show.”

Known Plots For The Simpsons 2011

Here are a few known Plots and Guest Stars for The Simpsons in the new year. It is unknown though when these episodes are going to air but We will keep you updated.

Here are some of them:

.The episode "Homer the Father", which will reportedly air on January 23, 2011, will include a guest appearance from David Mamet.

.In an episode entitled "Flaming Moe," (not to be confused with "Flaming Moe's") Moe Szyslak and Waylon Smithers turn Moe's tavern into an ultra-trendy gay bar. Meanwhile, Principal Skinner tries to date the substitute music teacher and sets her daughter up with Bart.

.In an episode entitled "The Food Wife," Marge becomes jealous over the fact Homer gets to do all the fun things with the kids, while she is stuck doing all the "mom" things. After accidentally enjoying a meal of Ethiopian food, Marge and the kids start a food blog, which leaves Homer feeling like the odd one out.

.Halle Berry is set to guest star in an episode in which she presents an award to Homer and Bart for their animated short film titled, Angry Dad (which appeared in "I Am Furious Yellow" in season 13). Executive producer Al Jean said it is "a bit of a satire of the different Oscar acceptances where two people clearly race to the stage to get there first, and Homer and Bart are fighting to be the one that accepts." The episode is scheduled to air in early 2011. Ricky Gervais will appear as himself, his second guest appearance on the show.

.Paul Rudd is set to guest star in an episode as Dr. Zander, a therapist who helps Homer be a good father to Bart.

.Maggie goes missing.

.Homer becomes a hairdresser.

Jane Lynch To Guest on The Simpsons as Homer's Work Rival

Fans of The Simpsons can shout with Glee: Jane Lynch is lending her voice to an episode of the animated Fox comedy. Lynch — whose Emmy-winning performance as Glee’s menacing Sue Sylvester earned her a Golden Globe nomination on Tuesday — plays Roz, Homer’s new assistant at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. “This woman seems terrifically nice, but then it turns out she’s just completely undermining him every step of the way and gets his job — until he can discover her one weakness with the help of Ned Flanders,” explains Simpsons executive producer Al Jean.

Jean notes that it was an easy decision to cast Lynch as the duplicitous Roz: “She can do edge, sweetness, and a mix of both,” he says of the actress, who recorded her lines last week. “I’m just embarrassed we didn’t ask her before she was so successful because she’s funny in everything she does. We were very happy when she said yes.” The episode, titled “Replaceable You,” is slated to air early next season. Three of Lynch’s Glee co-stars — Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Amber Riley — guest-starred on the first episode of this season.

The Simpsons Takes Third Jab at Fox News

The Simpsons mocked its network, Fox, the third time this season.

Sunday night's show featured a Fox News helicopter with the slogan, "Merry Christmas From Fox News...But No Other Holidays."

It has also aired helicopters with slogans, "Unsuitable For Viewers Under 75" and "Fox News: #1 With Racists."

Simpsons executive producer Al Jean told The Hollywood Reporter last month that the show wouldn't continue to skewer Fox, but it appears they couldn't resist.

"I think at that point you're becoming stale. I believe that something is only funny twice," he said.

Jean said the network doesn't take it too seriously.

"We did a parody of the Fox News crawl about eight years ago and we talked to the guy he does the crawls and he said he loved it, so they do have a sense of humor about themselves," he told THR. "We're shooting for two different audiences. Our audience was definitely pleased with the Fox News jokes."

David Mamet To Guest On The Simpsons

We swear this is true: David Mamet will pop up on The Simpsons. Simpsons executive producer Al Jean tells EW exclusively that the award-winning playwright/screenwriter (Glengarry Glen Ross) will lend his voice to an episode in which he plays a version of himself — one that was a writer on Thicker Than Waters, a hokey ‘80s family sitcom that Homer becomes obsessed with. In a scene that winks at Mamet’s penchant for using profanity, Homer winds up watching a documentary about the fictional comedy, which features old footage of Mamet getting an earful from one of the Thicker actors. “He just keeps swearing at him, saying, ‘Why don’t you f—ing learn how to f—ing write an f—ing script?’” explains Jean. “And David says, ‘Hmmm, f—. I can use that… ‘” (Obviously, the f-words will be bleeped out.)

Jean adds that he was thrilled to include a Mamet cameo on The Simpsons. “Obviously, it’s an honor for us,” he says. “In fact, we clearly ripped off the Jack Lemmon character from Glengarry Glen Ross and used him as our underachieving salesman Gil.” The episode, titled “Homer the Father,” airs Jan. 23 on Fox

The Simpsons As Puppets And Katy Perry Joins Them In Tommorows All New Episode

The Simpsons would like to wish you a very Perry Christmas: The animated Fox comedy’s holiday episode on Dec. 5 includes a special live-action segment that features pop star Katy Perry hamming it up with Simpsons characters that have been transformed into puppets.

Let’s hear about the plot that brings Perry into the world of Homer & Co. “Maggie has a Muppet-type DVD that no one will let her watch, so she has this puppet dream with the Simpsons, and Katy Perry shows up the way Elton John would on The Muppet Show,” Simpsons executive producer Al Jean tells EW. Clad in a flashy red dress that would have stressed out the folks at Sesame Street, Perry sings “The 39 Days of Christmas” with the Simpsons, Mr. Burns, and Moe, who, believe it or not, is her boyfriend. “Moe can’t actually reach her — he’s too short — so there’s a slightly risqué joke at the end of the show,” hints Jean. “Don’t tune out during the credits.” The episode, which is titled “The Fight Before Christmas,” also boasts an appearance by (an animated) Martha Stewart.
